The Collabrophone(s) are designs where the musical qualities and the collaborative design mindset of Cas come together. All these designs, workshops and instruments are made with the same ideology; to facilitate the power, enrichment, educative strength, intuitivity and pleasure of playing music with others for both non-musicians and musicians in a hands-on collaborative package. Collabrophone designs aim to create the experience to play music together, search together, smile together and share pride. To dive into the musical experiment united, unrestrained and unobstructed.

A RESEARCH TO PLAY, LEARN, JAM AND EXPLORE TOGETHER WITH THE CLASSIC DUTCH 'DRAAI-ORGEL'
The traditional barrel organ (Draai-Orgel) is a piece of Dutch cultural heritage. These impressive instruments have been innovating for years and are still visible and audible in city centers across the Netherlands.
With Collabrophone de Speelklok, departing from the question to modernise and add more functions to the Draai-Orgel by Museum Speelklok, Cas did a research on how to interact with these incredible instruments. So, he created a prototype that enables the user to control the barrel organ. With further development this design will allow the audience to engage with the Draai-Orgel, play and jam together.

A JAM FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT ANY MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE
JAMFLOW are instruments for people without any musical knowledge. They provide you with the chance to play an instrument and jam with other people. JAMFLOW is the original founding father of all future Collabrophone projects. With JAMFLOW Cas has experienced that creating new instruments gives freedom to the expression of people who normally can't play music together. Because of the simplicity in the design as well as the user experience everybody can get in a JAMFLOW withing minutes.
JAMFLOW consists out of three similar instruments and can be booked for a workshops, or events.

Before my final version of JAMFLOW I've done several studies to: How to play it, which positions, design, sound, how many notes, comfort, communication, technology, natural poses of musicians etc..

With COLLABROPHONE the workshop the aim is to create instruments that musicians as well as non-musicians can jam together with. By (co)creating instruments that have no expectation in the way they sound because of their odd looks and unexpected shapes Cas facilitated some amazing jams.
The first workshop was part of "The Bizarre Sound Creatures" expo by Arvid & Marie the during the Dutch Desing Week.

A noise machine using digital fm frequencies, enveloppe filter and what else?! for my dear friend Pierre Castignola . By using multiple effect pedals after the output you can create even more noise. Enjoy Pierre!
The Collabrophone #2
The “Collabrophone” is a table top instrument designed to facilitate a workshop for children (8-12 year old). The instrument aims to show how exciting the combination between technology and music/sound can be, and stimulates kids to start working with technology in a creative way!
In the course of 3 days the kids make electronical switches that can turn a sound on or off with the use of the “Collabrophone”.
On day 1 we record together a sound and on day 2 the kids learn how to make the two-wire switches that need to be connected to the instrument in order to be able to play the recorded sound. On day 3 together with a bit of guidance we try to make a modern composition with the sounds they recorded and the switches they made. After that the kids can look into the “Collabrophone” and see what kind of electronics are used to make this all happen. At the end of the workshop they will receive the file, code and a sheet with instructions so they can continue to make great instruments at home.

Meranti Speakerset
Most of my instruments need amplification since they are digital. Luckily I had some old meranti wood from a spiral staircase and two broken active monitors laying around (thanks to Rene!). Put it all together and created some lovely, 100% recycled speakers for workshops and small events. If you are interested please contact me!

A COLLABORATIVELY PLAYED INSTRUMENT
Playing an instrument is a solely personal experience. An experience exclusively for musicians only. At least normally this is the case. Pierre and Cas had the idea to create an instrument so huge you need to play it together no matter if you are a musician or not. Collaboration is the key to this instrument. The project 'You wish you had this carpet' is an experiment developed from that idea. Let's play music together!
Next to that 'You wish you had this carpet' has been cas his main inspiration to dive into the possibilities of playing music together in unusual and unkown ways.
